The Conditioning Workshop
Stop outsourcing complex clients

Master conditioning for any sport
How Do You Prescribe Conditioning For Complex Clients And Athletes?
Our education systems are lacking something important. Everywhere you look online, there’s another course or workshop willing to teach you their systems and new lingo. Often the courses are presented in a confusing way, sometimes with useful methods but without a grasp on the bigger picture. Instead of clarity you walk away from each course with more confusion.
Our workshop is the right fit if you want:
to know if you should be loading training volume onto a funky gait pattern that could be leading to a client's injuries or poor performance
to get better results with your athletes and clients regardless of their sport, activity or complexity
to stop referring your hard-earned clients to someone else for gait/running assessments
to understand the science behind prescribing conditioning so you can confidently make programming decisions for any client
to be recognized as the "go-to" expert in your area with clients lining up to work with you
clarity on how to include conditioning in a return-to-sport rehabilitation plan so you stop leaving 50% of the rehab gains on the table
to learn from high performance coaches with world-class experience (we've worked with many Olympians and pro athletes)

Practical, real-life examples from our practice
Why Conditioning Matters
We learn so much about prescribing strength but what about conditioning?
By having the knowledge to analyze gait and tailor conditioning programs specific to each individual we are able to address concerns, enhance performance, and prevent injuries. All of which can have a big impact on our client’s lives and our coaching practices.
With Carla and Nick as your hosts, you will not only get a framework for these prescriptions and assessments, but also the practical knowledge their combined 26 years experience with Olympic teams and individuals brings.

Meet Your Hosts
Carla Robbins, MKin, CSEP-CEP
Carla created Vital over a decade ago as a way of working with athletes and individuals with a more detail-oriented, individualized, and careful approach. After completing her Masters in Kinesiology, she has worked with athletes at the international & Olympic level in elite triathlon, bobsleigh, and track. Over the years, Carla has continued to grow Vital’s client base to the point of a constant waitlist. It’s her unique approach to applying the science to each individual to get them the best results that has catapulted Vital as a front-runner.
Her current client roster varies from Kona Ironman qualifiers, to ultramarathoners, to the University of Calgary Women’s Hockey team, to individuals with acute and chronic injuries.
Nicholas Simpson, BScKin, CSCS
Nick joined Vital after close to a decade of working with high performance athletes – having coached multiple medal winning athletes at the international & Olympic level in speed skating & swimming. This gave him a unique insight into the integrative approach it takes to push boundaries far past the norm. Nick’s extensive knowledge about biochemistry, energy systems, and how to develop physical qualities comes to life in his ability to take principles and turn out performance increases in everyone he works with.
His current client roster varies from powerlifters, to runners, to gymnasts and biathletes, to individuals with acute and chronic injuries, and even stroke.
FAQs
Why are GAIT and CONDITIONING PROGRAMMING lumped into the same workshop?
If you were going to prescribe SQUATS to a client, you would take the time to watch them squat first, making the adjustments necessary to ensure they are doing the squat correctly for what you want to achieve with your squat prescription. Conditioning is no different – and the main modes of conditioning are running and cycling. So instead of mindlessly prescribing running and cycling to someone, we think it is important to first analyze their movement, optimize it, and then feel confident increasing the volume or intensity.
Plus – the conditioning side of most therapists and strength and conditioning coaches repertoires are lacking compared to their strength knowledge. We attempt to change that here.
What if I work with athletes who aren't runners? Will this still be valuable for me?
Our goal with this workshop is to teach you the framework and methodologies you will need to prescribe conditioning to an athlete of any sport. We will teach you how to research and analyze the sport, teach you how to select specific testing protocols, and teach you how to start a conditioning program as well as teach you how to progress the intensity and volume accordingly.
Are you essentially teaching us your framework for working with clients?
Yes, we are essentially, for the first time ever, teaching our framework for working with an athlete or individual from start to finish. This includes assessment, testing, ongoing troubleshooting skills, exercise selection, and programming for conditioning (something we feel like is majorly lacking in the S&C industry right now).
Will we have access to you both to ask questions to after the workshop?
Yes, we will be doing a 1 hour Zoom call follow up call after the workshop to answer any lingering questions (will be recorded if you can’t attend), and we will also be opening a WhatsApp group chat to discuss specific questions after the fact for the 3 months following the workshop.
Do I have access to the content after the workshop?
We will send out slide outlines to the workshop in advance, and participants can use those outlines to print and take their own notes throughout. For specific exercise prescription, we will send out links to those videos after the workshop.
How much knowledge about conditioning or gait should I have in advance of attending this workshop?
Unlike other workshops where it is expected that you’ve bought and read all the content of that practitioner before attending, we will essentially be teaching this workshop as a blank slate, so that you understand things clearly no matter how much you know about our methods. A basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and related courses taught in Kinesiology-type undergraduate degrees will be a sufficient base.
What if we don't get through all the content in 2 days?
While we plan to tailor the content to fit into a 2-day window, if there is anything we feel like we don’t have time to tackle inside the confines of the workshop, we will record ourselves explaining things and share with participants after the fact.
What is your main motivation for running this workshop?
After coaches and therapists finish school to certify them to become strength coaches, therapists, and personal trainers, often the “Strength” side of the coin is focused on, but the “Conditioning” side of the coin is extremely lacking. Here, we will take a deep dive into the important elements of conditioning for athletes and individuals, normative ranges for where people should be, and of course, when it is appropriate to load up conditioning volume (hint: when form is sound), and how much to load or when to pull back.
Can anyone attend this workshop?
No, this workshop isn’t for “just anyone”. It is for Strength and Conditioning coaches, Personal Trainers, and Physical therapists looking to gain an edge on their knowledge of conditioning and gait so that they too can have waitlists of clients waiting to see them.
